Phase 2 'mdgock' Writing words (Set 2)

(0)
What’s included? x4 sheets in total for Phase 2 phonics (Set 2 - mdgock). x3 sheets with x6 cards to cut out plus x1 ‘answers’ sheet. All landscape orientation, pdf format. What is it? This ‘Phase 2’ phonics practise activity set has been designed practise sounding out and writing simple words only using sounds in Phase 2. This set focuses on letters m, d, g, o, c, k. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for Early Years children, pupils in Year 1 who are just learning these sounds for the first time or who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds. This resource is also ideal for learners with additional learning needs. This activity is ideal for groups/individuals to be getting on with independently and/or for learners to revisit these sounds with an adult. How to use it? An adult cuts along the dotted lines and places the set of x6 word cards on a table top. Learners look at the image on the left (of each card) - say this out loud and sound it out. Learners then write these sounds as graphemes on the lines (on the right) of each card/strip. A visual answer sheet is included which learners can use themselves to encourage autonomy. Resource Details… ALL images featured here have been chose because they CAN be sounded out in the order that the Phase 2 sounds have been learnt. This orange ‘Set 2’ (with the exception of ‘gift’ - which contains a ‘f’ from set 4) includes words which all contain the sounds s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k. The same design resource for the remaining letters in Phase 2 are also available in my TES shop. The words included are listed here: Set 2 m - map d - dog g - gift (contains ‘f’ ‘ introduced later, with set 4) o - octagon (although this is a longer word it can be sounded out using sounds from sets 1 and 2. IF learners know this 2D shape) c - cat k - kit (e.g. football/PE kit) Suggestion These x6 cards could be laminated and used as a table top activity for learners to access independently using a wipe clean pen. Special request ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you! Feedback would be wonderful! Thank you!
Alphabet Matching Set (Circle cards)

Alphabet Matching Set (Circle cards)

(0)
What’s included? This download includes nine A4, portrait pdf sheets to make an Alphabet matching set featuring x54 cards (pictures to name, say the initial sound of and match to the correct letter card - upper and lowercase letters both included). How to use this resource This matching activity has been designed to be an activity for an individual or group where the circles are cut up, shuffled and displayed either loosely on a table top/carpet or already attached on the ring. Learners then look at each picture and (if they are able) say what it is. Learners then say the initial sound for each picture and match the picture card to the alphabet letter card which shows the same initial sound. Once the set is matched into pairs (pictures and letters together) learners can then order the pairs from the beginning to the end of the alphabet (or vice versa which can be much trickier!) Pictures included are apple, banana, car, dog (Dachshund!), egg, frog, grass, house, ink, jam, key, lemon, milk, nine numbers, orange, pink pig, quarter, robot, sun, tree, upside-down umbrella, van, wall (not to be confused with ‘bricks’ !) xylophone, yellow yo-yo, zebra. This alphabet shape matching set could be used as a reference resource for learners e.g. to cross-check the correct orientation of individual letters if unsure when writing. This ‘alphabet match’ set could also be used for a variety of ways, both inside and outdoors (especially if laminated to improve durability in all types of weather!) Hide and seek match could make a fun game where one half of the set (e.g. all the pictures cards or all the letter label cards) are missing and learners need to find them and match them up. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Suggestion I recently purchased some brightly coloured plastic keyrings which can be easily opened by unclipping the plastic (as seen on the main resource image). Alternatively string or thin ribbon would work well. If a small piece of velcro was attached to both ends of string/ribbon with some strong glue this would help learners to be more independent using this resource. Important message… ANY issues with this alphabet matching set please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d really love to hear from you! **Feedback of this resource would be wonderful! Thank you!

Alphabet Wheel

(0)
What’s included? This download includes one A4, portrait pdf sheet to practise recognising the letters and order of the alphabet. Dotted lines guide where to cut and where to create a hole to attach the two wheels together (using a split pin). Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details The layout includes x2 wheels, one for the ‘front’ (wheel 1) and one for the back - with the alphabet images on (wheel 2). Once assembled (according to instructions included on the pdf) the alphabet wheel can be turned to reveal one easy to recognise image at a time for every letter of the alphabet - in order (if wheel 1 is turned clockwise). Important message… ANY issues with any of this alphabet wheel please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes as needed. Feedback of this resource would be wonderful! Thank you!

Phase 2 Grapheme/Picture Matching cards with answers

What’s included? x5 sheets (x4 sets of cards and answers) for Phase 2 split into x4 activity sets. Portrait orientation, pdf format Who’s it for? This ‘Phase 2’ phonics practise activity set has been designed to be a simple activity to consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for groups/individuals to be getting on with independently and/or for learners to revisit these sounds with an adult. This resource has been designed for Early Years children, pupils in Year 1 who need some sound practise/reinforcement or learners with additional learning needs. How to use it? Each learner is to match the ‘grapheme’ and 'picture’ cards. There are four colour coded sets to help limit options and make the different sets clear to help with organisation. Resource Details… Phase 2 is split into four sets, one set per sheet. Not all phonemes are ‘initial’ letters (in sets 3 and 4 here) - so learners may need this pointing out before working with these. Although the focus of this activity is the ‘sound’ (only) ALL images featured here have been chose because they CAN be sounded out in the order that the Phase 2 sounds have been learnt. The red set (with the exception of ‘nest - which contains an ‘e’ from set 3) are all words which contain the sounds s, a, t, p, i, n. I have designed additional resources to extend learning, including reading and writing words only using sounds in Phase 2. These are available in my TES shop. The answers are listed here: Set 1 s - stamp a - ant t - tap p - pan i - ink n - nest (contains ‘e’ - introduced later, with set 3) Set 2 m - map d - dog g - gift (contains ‘f’ ‘ introduced later, with set 4) o - octagon (although this is a longer word it can be sounded out using sounds from sets 1 and 2. IF learners know this 2D shape) c - cat k - kit (e.g. football/PE kit) Set 3 ck - duck (first ‘end’ sound here so may catch out some learners) e - egg (double ‘gg’ may be an issue though of course the ‘g’ letters together only have one ‘g’ sound) u - up (escalator - arrow indicates this) r - rat (not to be confused with ‘mouse’ !) h - hen (not to be confused with ‘chicken’ !) b - bag Set 4 f - frog ff - daffodil (‘middle’ sound may catch out some learners) Learners will need to know this particular flower or may just associate this image with ‘flower’ (for ‘f’) l - lemon ll - bell (‘end’ sound may catch out some learners) ss - grass (‘end’ sound may catch out some learners) Recommendations I recommend printing these resources onto card rather than paper to help improve durability. I’ve recently purchased a ‘corner cutter’ which gives beautiful smooth, curved edges - these card corners are radius size 18. I used size R7 for square cards (corners) and size R4 for larger ‘answer’ cards. The corners of the answer cards are size R10.

Phase 2 Phonics fans x4 colour coded sets with simple instructions

What’s included? This download includes four A4, portrait pdf sheets to make x4 phonics fans featuring all sounds in Phase 2. Red Set 1 (page 1) Includes sounds s a t p i n Orange Set 2 (page 2) Includes sounds m d g o c k Yellow Set 3 (page 3) Includes sounds ck e b r u h Green Set 4 (page 4) Includes sounds f ff l ll ss How to use this resource As all letter sounds for Phase 2 are included here all letters can be combined onto one ring as one set. I have included ‘covers’ for each individual set incase the preference is to split the sets. A ‘cover’ for ALL sounds is included on page 4. Phonics fans can be used in a variety of situations including on-the-carpet questioning with the whole class/smaller groups where pupils can show their answers instead of speaking. Learners can use these phonics fans as a personal reference resource to cross-check the correct grapheme or orientation of individual letters if unsure when writing. Phonics fans can also be used for a variety of games and to involve learners during sound rhymes and songs. These fans are a great size to fit into a pocket or clip onto a lanyard to be accessed both inside the classroom and outdoors. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Suggestion I recently purchased some brightly coloured plastic keyrings which can be easily opened by unclipping the plastic. These could be ideal should you wish learners to access the contents of the ring (e.g. to order the sounds) and come in a variety of colours. Alternatively I have found standard metal keyrings also work well as a more permanent ‘holder’ of the contents threaded onto the keyring. I recommend that each letter is laminated before punching a hole and threading onto a keyring - this is included in the instructions on the pdf. Important message… ANY issues with these phonics fans please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d really love to hear from you! Feedback of these resources would be wonderful! Thank you!

An adult cuts along the dotted lines and placed the set of x6 word cards on a table top with the last section folded backwards (where the ‘folding line’ dots indicate) to ‘hide’ the image behind the word. Learners then the sound out and read each word. Learners can check by looking behind at the hidden (folded back) image to see if they got the word correct. Resource Details… ALL images featured here have been chose because they CAN be sounded out in the order that the Phase 2 sounds have been learnt. This yellow ‘Set 3’ includes words which all contain the sounds s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, b, r, u, h. This resource is available in my TES shop for all sounds in Phase 2. The words included are listed here: Set 3 ck - duck (first ‘end’ sound here so may catch out some learners) e - egg (double ‘gg’ may be an issue though of course the ‘g’ letters together only have one ‘g’ sound) u - up (escalator - arrow indicates this) r - rat (not to be confused with ‘mouse’ !) h - hen (not to be confused with ‘chicken’ !) b - bag Special request ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you! Feedback would be wonderful! Thank you!

What’s included? SET 2 x4 sheets (activities and answers) for Phase 2 Set 2 (letters - m d g o c k). Portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This ‘Phase 2’ phonics practise activity set (2) has been designed to be a simple, predictable matching activity to promote independence and consolidate knowledge of the first TWO sets of letters/sounds introduced. This activity is ideal for individuals/groups to be getting on with independently. How to use it? The adult can pre-cut the x16 rectangular shaped picture (x8) and word cards (x8) - pages 1 and 2 (grey dotted lines guide where to cut) to separate them from each other. These x16 rectangles can then be shuffled and placed on a table top (shuffled) for learners to read and match together. Resource Details… The words on the word cards only use the letters s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k (from sets 1 AND 2) These words are: dog map pig cap pot mat pod cogs Learners may find ‘pod’, ‘cogs’ and ‘mat’ more tricky to match as these three words are not as obvious. ‘Pod’ may be a new word/concept to some learners (what a ‘pea’ grows inside of), learners may not know/be familiar with ‘cogs’ (or know what they are called) and may confuse ‘cat’ with ‘mat’ as the word they are looking for - to match the ‘mat’ picture card. I have included an orange arrow pointing to the ‘mat’ to hopefully help make this clearer. Special request ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you! Feedback of this resource would be wonderful! Thank you!

What’s included? This download includes one A4, landscape pdf sheet to practise ‘ordering the alphabet’ and matching up upper and lowercase alphabet letters using rainbow coloured circle shaped ‘beads’. Dotted guide line showing where to cut and punch a hole are included. The hole to punch is 5mm in size though a smaller hole punch could be used (to increase the fine motor skills challenge!) Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details The layout includes x6 rows and x9 columns of circular shaped beads each with an upper/lowercase letter. Beads are arranged in rainbow order to help guide and motivate learners in finding the next number (and colour) in the pattern. This is an ideal activity to keep learners busy and independent. I have included two versions of the letter ‘k’ as some learners may be more used to the look of one style than the other. Important message… ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you! What’s included? SET 1 x4 sheets (activities and answers) for Phase 2 Set 1 (letters - s a t p i n). Portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This ‘Phase 2’ phonics practise activity set (1) has been designed to be a simple, predictable matching activity to promote independence and consolidate knowledge of the first set of letters/sounds introduced. These words are: snap pin pants spin tin sit pan snip Learners may find ‘snip’, snap’, ’spin’ and ‘sit’ more tricky to match as these four cards do not link directly to a noun picture card. ‘Snap’ links to a ‘crocodile’, ‘snip’ to ‘scissors’, ’spin’ to a ‘globe’ and ‘sit’ to the cat which is ‘sitting’ on a chair. Alphabet matching lower and uppercase letters Rabbit/carrots

What’s included? This download includes four A4, portrait pdf sheets to practise matching upper and lowercase alphabet letters using an alphabet strip (showing capital letters) and carrots (for lowercase letters). Two pages are clear instructions on how to make the rabbit face into a ‘posting box’ (with photos supporting each step). An empty tissue box is needed to make this resource. On this download dotted guide lines show where to cut, there are also two ‘slits’ which need making and a hole to be cut (inside the rabbits mouth). Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details The photo shows how this resource looks which complete. The idea is that learners move the capital letter alphabet strip left/right to show a different capital letter. They then ‘post’ the matching lowercase alphabet letter into the rabbit’s mouth. SET 2 x6 sheets (activities and answers) for Phase 2 Set 1 (letters - m d g o c k). Landscape orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This ‘Phase 2’ phonics practise activity set (2) has been designed to be a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate knowledge of the first set of letters/sounds introduced. This activity is ideal for groups to be getting on with independently. Phase 2 (set 1 - s, a, t, p, i, n) in same design is now available in my TES shop if you like this one. How to use it? The adult can pre-cut the x10 rectangular shaped puzzles - pages 1 and 2 (grey dotted lines guide where to cut) to separate them from each other. The adult can also cut the orange dotted lines to separate the segments of each puzzle itself. Picture/word puzzles Each learner needs to match up the segments of each picture/word puzzle to complete the x10 pictures and words - all words on the ‘picture/word’ puzzles are made using only the ‘m d g o c k’ letters/sounds. Once the puzzles are complete learners can use these as a reference to complete the x10 sentences (pages 3-6). Extension/follow-on sentences… There are two versions of the same x10 sentences to complete. A larger format (pages 3 and 4) which can be cut up (perhaps laminated) and written on (if laminated - with a dry wipe/wipe clean pen). The smaller scale version (page 5) has the same x10 sentences but ‘all on one page’ for learners to complete with a pencil, as a ‘worksheet’. Answers are included on page 6 in the same format which learners can use for quick, easy reference. Resource Details… The sentences include high frequency words ‘a’, ‘the’, ‘this’, ‘is’, ‘go’, ‘on’, ’can’. The sentences also include the word ‘spade’ (with an image of a spade directly above this word), ’peas’ (with an image of pod with peas in/outside of it directly above this word) and ’hot’ (with an image of pot with steam coming out of the spout directly above this word). The sentences included are - ‘A pink _ _ _’. (pig) (‘pink’ can be sounded out) ‘This is a hot _ _ _ ‘. (pot) (‘h’ in ‘hot’ may not have been introduced yet) ‘This is a _ _ _ ‘. (dog) ‘The _ _ _ _ can spin‘. (cogs) (‘spin’ can be sounded out) ‘Peas in a _ _ _ ‘. (pod) (‘peas’ may be tricky) ‘This _ _ _ can go on top’. (cap) Question ‘Where do we put a cap?’ could be asked (on top of a head!) ‘A cat sat on the _ _ _ ‘. (mat) (‘cat’ can be sounded out) ‘The spade can _ _ _ ‘. (dig) ‘The _ _ _ can stand’. (man) ‘This is a _ _ _’.
